Ben is not just child-like writing on a pencil case or a fountain pen with J'écris pour la gloire. To understand the universe of Ben – beyond his ego and his derivative products – we need to look at Fluxus, at his eloquence, his doubts and his struggles.

The "new Swiss artistic scene" started to appear in museums and the major auction houses towards the end of 1990s.
Switzerland has been the breeding ground of major contemporary artists like Jean TINGUELY , BEN , Niele TORONI and Felice VARINI . Collectively these artists experimented with new materials, produced interesting results from mixing art with life (and vice-versa), and generally broadened our fields of perception. Since then, other artists have caught our attention by using video and creating protean and uninhibited installations.

I am alive, I am in Nice. Ben 1993
If you were to look for the geographical heart of French art, you would naturally turn to Paris, the country's artistic capital. But the south of France, particularly the area around Nice, has also been a fertile cradle of artistic creation. Masters such as Pablo PICASSO , Henri MATISSE , Fernand LÉGER and Joan MIRO were all seduced by the côte d’Azur and left major works in the region. Following in their footsteps came Yves KLEIN , Fernandez ARMAN , Martial RAYSSE , then BEN , Bernar VENET , CÉSAR , Claude VIALLAT , Noël DOLLA and others spawning the great movements of French contemporary art : Fluxus, Supports/Surfaces, and the New Realism.

The 31st FIAC will take place on 21-25 October at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, and will be attended by 215 galleries – 94 of them new – from 20 countries. This internationally famous art fair is without doubt the essential meeting place in France for contemporary art collectors, professionals and aficionados. It showcases works by established French artists, such as Robert COMBAS , BEN and Claude VIALLAT , as well as providing the opportunity to start a collection by purchasing the work of a promising young artist. Houses such as Cornette de Saint Cyr and Artcurial also use the event to hold specialist auctions.
